H\u00c0 N\u1ed8I \u2014 A one-year management training course for some 200 female entrepreneurs\u00a0has just been completed under a project run by T\u00ecnh Th\u01b0\u01a1ng One Member Limited Liability Microfinance Institution (TYM) and the New York-based Citi Foundation.<\/strong><\/p>\n Most of the\u00a0entrepreneurs\u00a0who attended the course were involved in agriculture and handicrafts in the provinces of Nam \u0110\u1ecbnh, V\u0129nh Ph\u00fac, Thanh H\u00f3a, Ngh\u1ec7 An and H\u01b0ng Y\u00ean.<\/p>\n They were given the opportunity to learn about marketing, human resource management, group work, decision making, financial management and business planning.<\/p>\n During classes with experts from the International Labour Organisation and the Vi\u1ec7t Nam Women\u2019s Academy, the female entrepreneurs also looked at case studies and shared their real-life business experiences.<\/p>\n Speaking at a workshop on Wednesday, TYM General Director D\u01b0\u01a1ng Th\u1ecb Ng\u1ecdc Linh said that TYM originated from the\u00a0T\u00ecnh Th\u01b0\u01a1ng<\/em>\u00a0fund launched by the Vi\u1ec7t Nam Women\u2019s Union in 1992 to help the Government\u2019s hunger elimination and poverty reduction programme while improving women\u2019s status within and outside the home.<\/p>\n TYM provides preferential loans or microfinance for low-income households, especially poor and vulnerable women. TYM also helps to collect its members\u2019 savings which are sent daily, weekly or monthly and can be withdrawn at any time.<\/p>\n Up to last year, TYM had handed out more than 1.3 million loans worth VN\u011010.6 trillion (US$495 million) to more than 144,000 clients. Its outstanding loans last year reached VN\u01101 trillion ($44 million).<\/p>\n Linh said that TYM had helped over 100,000 women escape poverty, and about 7,000 of them had become entrepreneurs, which had driven TYM\u2019s leaders to consider a project to improve the management skills of these emerging businesswomen.<\/p>\n \u201cThey have real-life experiences but lack formal business knowledge,\u201d Linh said, adding that once they were equipped with the proper tools, they would be able to run their businesses more effectively.<\/p>\n Ph\u1ea1m Th\u1ecb H\u1ed3ng, a TYM member from T\u0129nh Gia District in the central province of Thanh H\u00f3a, said that before attending TYM\u2019s training classes, she had never thought about creating a website or Facebook page to advertise her wooden furniture products.<\/p>\n Nguy\u1ec5n Th\u1ecb An, a peanut oil producer from H\u01b0ng Nguy\u00ean District in the central province of Ngh\u1ec7 An, said that she liked the TYM training classes because she had learned more about customers, market prices and negotiations.<\/p>\n \u201cThe classes gave me the chance to meet and learn from other businesswomen. They\u2019re great!,\u201d An said.<\/p>\n In 2011, D\u01b0\u01a1ng Th\u1ecb Tuy\u1ebft, a TYM member from the northern province of Nam \u0110\u1ecbnh, was one of six micro-entrepreneurs honoured internationally with the Global Micro-Entrepreneur Award for her copper moulding business.<\/p>\n The New York-based Citi Foundation, a member of global bank Citi, works to promote economic progress and improve the lives of people in low-income communities around the world.<\/p>\n
