On 18th and19th May, 2017, TYM organized a training course on “Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Prevention” for the Board of Directors and Head of transaction offices of coastal branches in Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province.
In recent years, natural disasters such as severe storms and huge floods have caused serious damages to TYM’s members, especially to those living in coastal areas. Often, the main reason for this damage is the lack of the knowledge and skills to prevent and cope with natural disasters.
Understanding the difficulties of its members and their families, in 2017, TYM proposed Oxfam Vietnam to hold a capacity building training for TYM members to cope with natural disasters risks management and to make continuous business plans.
The program is being implemented in 6 coastal operating areas of TYM including Hai Hau Branch, Nam Truc Branch, Thanh Hoa Branch, Quynh Luu Branch, Dien Chau Branch, Nghi Loc Branch. The Training Of Trainer named Disaster Risk and Climate Change Management is one of the first activities in this campaign.
After the training course, from June to October, TYM officers will be dedicated coaches or communication officers in their local areas to guide, support and improve awareness about initiative planning toward Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Prevention for their clients, especially those poor people living in difficulty.
It is expected that 1000 members will be trained and a total of 4000 families supported by this program to make continuous business plans (the businesses are ensured not to be interrupted by disaster risks). Besides, TYM will attach the Disaster Risk and Climate Change factors to the credit analysis tool, which helps its members to predict these factors and to consider a loan suitable for their repayment capacity.
