Sharing difficulties with people and localities in storm and flood areas, by September 13, 2024, Tinh Thuong One member Limited liability Microfinance Institution (TYM) and TYM staff have spent 650 million VND to support people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, stabilize their lives soon, and restore production and business.
In recent days, storm Yagi and heavy rain and floods have seriously affected people in the Northern region. During storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) and recent floods, there were more than 700 cases of members of the Vietnam Women’s Union who are TYM customers directly affected by storms and floods with estimated property and economic damage of about 126 billion VND, especially 01 customer in Hai Phong unfortunately passed away due to a wall collapsing on her during the storm.
TYM joined hands with the whole country to share with people and localities in storm and flood areas
Since storm No. 3 was about to make landfall, TYM has promptly directed branches in areas at risk of storms and floods to closely follow the area, make efforts to overcome difficulties, ensure smooth operations, and serve customers’ transaction needs. Immediately after having statistics on the damage, TYM decided to support 450 million VND for customers and localities where TYM activities were affected after storm No. 3. Specifically, TYM supported more than 700 female members who are TYM customers with 500 thousand VND/person and supported 07 educational and medical facilities damaged by storms and floods. Previously, the TYM Board of Directors visited and shared with the Vietnam Women’s Unions of provinces/cities affected by storm No. 3 and committed to supporting members who are TYM customers who suffered damage after the storm.
Receiving encouragement and support from TYM for female members in Hai Phong City, Ms. Vu Thi Kim Lien, Chairwoman of the Hai Phong City Women’s Union, expressed her deep gratitude for TYM’s concern for the people here. The leaders of the Hai Phong City Women’s Union affirmed that they will continue to create favorable conditions and closely coordinate with TYM in the coming time so that TYM’s activities in the area will develop further, contributing to supporting women’s economic development.
In particular, on September 10, 2024, representatives of TYM leaders came to express condolences, encourage and present support of 2 million VND to the family of customer Nguyen Thi Bay (born in 1972) in Chu Vuon village, Kenh Giang commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city. Ms. Bay unfortunately passed away due to a collapsed wall crushing her during storm No. 3.
In addition to joining hands with the Vietnam Women’s Union and the entire banking industry to support the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Fund at the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, branches in the area, along with the Trade Union and Youth Union of TYM, quickly organized many relief activities to areas that were isolated and separated by floods to provide emergency support at the most difficult times such as participating in local relief teams, supporting essential food, etc. The total amount of money mobilized and supported by TYM staff was more than 200 million VND.
Support for rebuilding people’s lives after storms and floods
In addition to relief activities and direct support for people and localities affected by storms, from September 10, 2024, TYM has reduced the lending interest rate for the Disaster Risk Support product from 0.14%/week to 0.1%/week and from 0.56%/4 weeks to 0.4%/4 weeks to create timely conditions for women to access loans, restore production and business activities to stabilize their lives. In addition, TYM has adjusted the lending regulations in which customers are accepted to have outstanding loans of 03 loan types at the same time, including loan to support disaster risk reduction. This is also one of the specific and timely solutions that TYM has implemented according to the policy of the State Bank of Vietnam to support customers to overcome the consequences caused by storm No. 3.
The practical actions of TYM with the support of more than 600 staff members in the spirit of sharing and mutual love have been contributing to the authorities and people in the storm and flood areas to reduce difficulties, stabilize their lives and restore production and business activities. In the coming time, TYM will continue to update the situation of flood damage in localities after storms and floods to have appropriate and effective visits, encouragement and support activities.
