After much success gained from the Micro Business Game training course for TYM members in 2018 and 2019 with the support of Savings Bank Foundation for International Cooperation (SBFIC), in 2019, Savings Games training was provided to TYM members, staff and received many positive feedbacks.
Savings Games training classes for TYM members is an activity within the the cooperation project of the Vietnam Women’s Union, SBFIC and CARD MRI in responding to World Saving Day this year which was October 31, 2019. 10 TYM’s trained staff conducted Savings Games training for 50 TYM staff and 120 TYM members in Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Phu Tho and Hanoi.
Savings Game is a simulation board game which players are divided into groups. By playing this game, trainees learn how to manage household expenditures in a lively way under the instruction of trainers. The game has 3 rounds. Trainers will talk about key takeaways after each round. The management of family expenditures seems to be familiar to women but through this training, TYM members have learned much new knowledge about saving skills, household budget planning and management, how to set and achieve family goals and shopping goals, the difference between savings and loans, inflation, investment as well as the skills to identify a reliable financial institution.
The joy of each group of players after they achieve each family goal (good education, a new house, a new car) shows that the course has actually achieved initial success.
Savings Games provide women, especially poor, rural and disadvantaged females with the most basic and practical knowledge of expenditure management with easy and consistent approach. This will also be a motivation for TYM and its partners to continue researching and developing financial education programs for TYM members.
