Recently, Tinh Thuong Microfinance Institution (TYM) was honored to be awarded a Top Impact Award for ranking top 3 performing financial service provider (FSP) in Asia in the 2023 Microfinance Index by 60 Decibels. TYM is the only representative of Vietnam won this Award.
Established in 1992 by the Central Vietnam Women’s Union, TYM operates with the mission to improve the quality of life of low-income individuals and households, with special priority given to poor and disadvantaged women, through appropriate, convenient and responsible microfinance products and services. While credit is the main service, TYM also provides many savings products to help women accumulate assets and create sustainable resources. Along with that, diverse social services are provided to members, members’ families and the community, contributing to promoting comprehensive development.
After more than 30 years of operation, with TYM’s persistent efforts and continuous innovation, thousands of women have escaped poverty sustainably or become micro-entrepreneurs. During that journey, TYM has witnessed many stories of women rising in life and gradually changing their living conditions and social positions. Ms. Doan Thi Hai (a client in Cua Lo, Nghe An) confided: “In 10 years of membership, my family has not only received loans for economic development, but I also feel like I have improved and become more mature thanks to TYM’s support. As a mountainous person from Tan Ky then moved to Cua Lo after marriage, when I first joined TYM, I was a shy person and was very afraid of standing in front of a crowd. Every week when I went to collection meetings, I got to interact and got close to the other TYM’s clients, especially Ms. Tai (the center leader) who taught me everything from how to speak to how to express myself. From then, I has gradually become bold, confident, and fortunately, I was trusted and elected by other clients as a TYM’s center leader…” Like Ms. Hai, Ms. Vu Thi Duong (Hau Loc, Thanh Hoa) shared: “In 2019, when my family was still facing many difficulties, thanks to the introduction of the Vietnam Women’s Union in the village, I learned about TYM. I would like to avail loans and deposit savings at TYM. With an initial business loan of VND 30 million, my husband and I decided to buy a peanut oil press. Using such the small capacity machine, we bought peanuts, sold a part for profit, and reserved the remaining to press for oil for sale. With diligence and willingness to learn, our business has been run well, and the family’s economy has gradually improved. Currently, my family has equipped several peanut oil presses, providing additional jobs for some other women, helping them earn more income to improve their lives.”
Their stories are just two of the more than 200,000 current TYM clients who have had many positive changes in their lives. After more than 30 years, thanks to the companionship and support of TYM, TYM’s clients have continuously developed their economic power and positions in the families and society.
TYM’s practical activities and positive, sustainable impact on its clients are recognized by 60 Decibel. This is a great motivation for TYM continue to strive on the path for the comprehensive development of women in Vietnam.
